Spring is in the Air: The Ultimate Spring Cleaning Checklist

Bees are buzzing, birds are chirping, and spring is in the air. The arrival of spring brings thoughts of new beginnings, blooming gardens, and hiking up the mountains. But spring also brings allergies, yard maintenance, and of course, spring cleaning. Check out the maintenance checklist below to get through your seasonal cleanings more quickly.

General Home Maintenance

  • Clean out your rain gutters. Install gutter guards to keep them clear for the monsoon season ahead.

  • Remove any sticks, leaves, and debris that may have been collected on the outside of your A/C condenser. If necessary, call a professional to do the cleaning… but first give us a call! We have great professionals at affordable prices in our network of preferred vendors.

  • Clean your windows inside and out. While you’re at it, examine both windows and doors for cracks and leaks. If needed, reseal any caulking cracks.

  • Inspect your roof for loose or broken shingles or tiles and call a roofer to get those repairs taken care of right away. Again, we can always make a recommendation for a great contractor.

  • Clean your vents.

  • Clean your blinds with a microfiber cloth or handheld vacuum. Don’t forget to wash your curtains!

  • Disinfect switch plates and light switches.

Kitchen

A clean kitchen looks, feels, and smells better. All that grease, spills, and dirt can add up to create a kitchen that is stale and dull. Give your kitchen a fresh start and get ready for those family gatherings:

  • Check the pantry! Dispose of all expired condiments and pantry items.

  • Remove all items from the fridge and freezer. Mix a quart of warm water and a quarter cup of baking soda and wipe the shelves clean.

  • Steam clean your microwave. Microwave a cup of water with a few drops of vinegar for 3-5 minutes, then wipe clean.

  • Deep clean your oven. If yours has a self-clean function, make sure to take advantage of it.

  • Clean the range hood filters. If this is your first time cleaning your range, you’re in for a real, ah, treat when you get that filter off the hood. Don’t panic, though! Use a degreaser from an auto parts store mixed with hot water. Let the cleaner sit for a few minutes, rinse it off, and you’re good to go.

Bedrooms

Those quick clean-ups on the daily only go so far, so it’s time to spend a little more time getting your bedrooms back in shape and ready for a new season. Hopefully, you’re washing your bedding weekly as a rule of thumb. If your bedding is already part of your routine, completing your bedrooms’ spring cleaning is a breeze:

  • De-clutter your closet. This may seem like a daunting task for some of us, but it will make all the difference in how you feel and even in how you choose to dress in the morning. Consider donating those jeans you haven’t worn in 2 years.

  • Vacuum your mattresses, spot clean them if needed, and flip them over.

  • Vacuum or sweep under beds and other large pieces of furniture.

Bathrooms

If you get one thing crossed off your spring-cleaning checklist, let it be the bathrooms! We all spend a lot of time in the bathroom, and when they’re not cleaned properly, we can be exposed to more germs and mildew than we need to be. Use this checklist year-round to keep your family healthy and your bathrooms safe:

  • Wash your shower curtains and replace the liners as needed. Got a shower door? Make sure you clean it!

  • Wash the toothbrush holder in the dishwasher.

  • Vacuum the often-overlooked exhaust fan.

  • Clean the toilet, vanity, and sink.

  • Clean the tub and shower with a mold-fighting cleaner.

  • Purge unneeded or expired toiletries and make-up.

  • Disinfect the garbage can.

Laundry Room

Dirty clothes and heavily trafficked floors can really make a number if you don’t clean your laundry room regularly. Get it back in business with this quick spring cleaning strategy:

  • Wipe down all surfaces. Don’t forget to get all shelves and cabinets.

  • Run a cleaning cycle on your washing machine.

  • Pull out the washer and dryer and clean behind them.

  • Hopefully you are clearing the lint trap regularly. If not, make sure you make a habit of it starting now.

  • Sweep the floor, vacuum under the cabinets, and finish with a good mopping.
